About 3,500 new students were admitted to CUHK this year. Many different orientation activities for them have taken place on campus, including those for freshmen from mainland China and overseas students, the orientation camp organized by the Chung Chi Student Union, and the Rich and Poor Men’s Banquet held by Lee Woo Sing College.

中大今年共录取了约三千五百名本科新生。校园举办了多种迎新活动，包括内地新生和海外交流生聚会、崇基学生会新生辅导营，以及和声书院的「贫富宴」等。

The University has admitted 2,355 high-calibre students through JUPAS this year. Out of all those who obtained at least a grade A in this year’s HKALE, 1,075 have been admitted by CUHK, the highest among the nine JUPAS-participating institutions. Nearly 40% of those who obtained three As or above were admitted by CUHK, including one with six As, five with five As and 17 with four As.

今年透过大学联合招生办法共录取二千三百五十五名学生，均是在高考中表现杰出者，包括一名6A生、五名5A生、十七名4A生，近百分之四十在高考中考获3A或以上成绩的考生获中大录取。其中，有一千零七十五人在高考中考获最少一科A级成绩，人数为参与联招的九所院校之冠。

-CUHK Professor Poon Wai-yin Awarded Inaugural UGC Award for
-Teaching Excellence
-中大统计学者荣获首届教资会杰出教学奖

Prof. Poon Wai-yin, Associate Dean (Education) of the Faculty of Science and Professor in the Department of Statistics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), was conferred the inaugural UGC Award for Teaching Excellence by the University Grants Committee (UGC), in recognition of her outstanding teaching performance and achievements.

香港中文大学（中大）理学院副院长（教育）兼统计学系教授潘伟贤教授于9月8日获大学教育资助委员会（教资会）颁发首届「教资会杰出教学奖」，以嘉许潘教授的杰出教学成就。

中大校长沈祖尧表示：「我衷心恭贺潘伟贤教授荣获首届『教资会杰出教学奖』。大学的首要使命是作育英才，为社会培育具渊博知识及有承担的年青人。潘教授加入中大达四分一世纪，多年来在教研上不断创新，精益求精，充分彰显中大追求卓越的精神。潘教授获此殊荣，进一步肯定大学的优质教与学；她对教学的委身及热诚，更是老师的典范，启发同侪力求进步，促进教学成效，有助推动本地教育更上层楼。」

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is committed to promoting students' holistic development through social and civic engagements in Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas countries. 香港中文大学（中大）一直鼓励学生积极参与本港、内地及世界各地的社会及公民服务，致力促进学生全人发展。为此，中大特成立I‧CARE博群计划，培育学生的公民责任感及贡献社会的心志，使他们在投身社会后仍继续关心社会需要，运用其专业知识于社会及公民服务上。大学正积极筹募港币一亿元基金以支持计划的实行，促进学生的个人成长，并为社会缔造更多有抱负及乐意付出的青年精英。

-Three Alumni Receive French Scholarships
-三校友获颁法国奖学金

Three CUHK graduates have been awarded scholarships by the French Government to pursue further studies in France in the 2011–12 academic year. Mr. Ho Lai-yin Ken (Computer Engineering, 2003) and Miss Jelenkovic Nadja Hej Man (Government and Public Administration, 2011) received the Alexandre Yersin Excellence Scholarships, while Miss Pan King-yee Kris (English, 2008) obtained the Crédit Agricole Scholarship. Ken and Kris attended the scholarships presentation ceremony and received the awards from Mr. Arnaud Barthélémy, Consul-General of France in Hong Kong and Macau.

三名中大毕业生获法国政府颁发奖学金，于2011至12学年负笈法国修读硕士课程。何礼贤（计算器工程，2003）
和叶希文（政治与行政，2011）同获Alexandre Yersin奖学金，而潘敬仪 （英文，2008） 则获得 Crédit Agricole奖学金。何礼贤与潘敬仪早前出席了颁奖礼，并从法国驻港澳总领事栢雅诺先生手中领取奖项。


-CUHK Faculty of Engineering to Stage Innovation and Technology Fair
-to Showcase 20 Years of Excellence and Achievements
-中大工程学院举办「创新科技展」庆祝二十周年院庆　展示卓越成就

In celebration of its 20th anniversary, the Faculty of Engineering at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) showcases in the 3-day Innovation and Technology Fair a wide spectrum of new innovative research projects in engineering and information technology conducted by its faculty members and students from 16 Septermber to 18 September on campus. Project highlights include applications of biomedical engineering, cloud computing, robotics and automation, multimedia, wireless and mobile technologies.

为庆祝二十周年院庆，香港中文大学（中大）工程学院于9月16日至18日在校园举办为期三天的「创新科技展」，公开展示一系列近年师生在工程及资讯科技方面的创新科研成果，包括生物医学工程、云端计算、机械人与自动化工程、多媒体科技，以及无线电通信技术等不同范畴的研究项目。

我始终相信，每一种相遇都是一种缘分，而结缘中大，则是我所幸运的事。

2008年高考之后，我偶然間得知，原来在遥远的香江，在那美丽的吐露湾畔，存在一所魅力无穷而又闻名世界的大学----香港中文大学。

中大的资源太多太多，一时间让我应接不暇：六間校内图书馆，大型康乐中心，语文自学中心，游泳池等等。爲了方便内地同学的学业适应，中大特地为内地同学安排学习辅导主任（LEO），帮助同学解决选课及学业方面的问题。中英双语的环境，对扩大同学的国际视野非常有帮助。我们的日常学习很多情况之下都是利用网络来进行，在这里我深切感受到信息时代的来临。中大很照顾内地来的同学，保证每一位内地同学都有宿位。在宿舍有丰富的宿舍活动，除此之外大学还有大大小小各种各样的社团，在参加这些社团的活动中，我们不仅积累了与人合作的经验，更重要的是，这些活动是内地生与本地生的互相了解与交流的重要平台。多与本地生一起交流与合作，会使我们收益非常。

我最欣赏的大学态度是，学术自由，理性和包容。而中大，完全给了我这样的印象。喜欢中大，是因爲它真的可以给每一位同学提供自主安排生活与学习的机会。我相信每一位同学都有理想的大学生活，我更相信，在中大的舞台上，这样的理想在被实践著，并将会成爲现实。理性的花朵在中大遍地开放，不需要掺杂任何因素，只要以理服人。
很多人会问我，选择来香港，选择来中大会不会后悔。我想他们这是多虑了，我非常热爱我的大学，因爲我可以独立地思考与生活。

对我来说，中大爲我打开了一扇窗，一扇可以看世界多元文化的魅力之窗。

Christoffer Clement, a student from Denmark who gained a grade equivalent to an IB score of 43 at the Danish university entrance examination, was admitted to the quantitative finance programme at CUHK. Last year he took part in the International Geography Olympiad held in Taipei. The experience prompted him to explore the possibility of studying in a different culture. With a strong interest in finance, he decided to come to CUHK as soon as he found that a quantitative finance programme was available here. He hopes that the programme will equip him with the knowledge and skills to pursue a career in investment banking.

来自丹麦入读计量金融学的 Christoffer Clement，在当地高考中，考获等同IB四十三分的佳绩。他去年曾在台湾参加国际地理奥林匹克比赛，启发了他尝试在一个崭新的文化下学习。他对于金融学有浓厚兴趣，当发现香港中文大学的计量金融学时，就决定报读，希望毕业后能学以致用，在投资银行业服务。

With a Taiwanese father and a Korean mother, Chou Shiun-yi speaks Korean, Putonghua, English, Cantonese and Japanese. She has visited CUHK many times because her sister is a Year 3 student in Chinese medicine at the University. She knows the international character of our campus very well. She will study law here and hopes to focus on culture-related subjects and human rights law.

父母分别是台湾人及韩国人的周勋仪，懂韩语、普通话、英语、广东话及日语，其姊是中大中医系三年级生，令她对中大更有亲切感。她已多次来访中大，感受国际化校园气息。勋仪将会修读法学，希望能专注于文化及人权法等。
